It has been a long time since I have actually built a blog in WordPress that is meant for content consumption. It was refreshing to see some of the workflows I was able to achieve in my latest foray on the web.
I’ve just started working on time maps and allocating my time to specific things, and one of the things I wanted to start up again as a personal hobby is singing. I was really into singing about 3 years when I led worship at a local church, and now that those 3 years have passed without any singing practice, I can definitely tell how rough my voice is once again.
Part of that time is dedicated to practicing my vocal exercises and singing; the other part is to writing about it. Thus I started a new website called Singing Platform that teaches you how to sing with simple to use vocal exercises and drills that improve your voice. Since this site is meant for consumption, I decided to dive headlong into trying to make my workflows fast so that I can do more in less time.
Unlike previous times where I have built sites for others to use or where the purpose is more marketing of a product (like Soliloquy, Envira Gallery, OptinMonster or Theme Lab), this site is built solely for my purposes and will be used by me. I didn’t want to have to spend lots of time going through the small details of what I need to do to build my list, grow my audience and what not. I wanted to automate as much of it as I can.
As such, this site is built around workflows. An email list with an autoresponder that offers value to visitors. Automated updates to Facebook, Twitter and Google+ once my posts are published. Responsive design for pleasant viewing on any device. OptinMonster to offer targeted campaigns via exit intent technology.
All of these things are used by me so that I can spend less time thinking and more time doing. I haven’t done this in quite a while, and it is refreshing to start it again, this time on the right foot.
